Had the pleasure of meeting this darling family a couple weeks ago. Little man is quite the busy fellow. We started with a couple shots in studio then moved to the outdoors. Usually toddlers will respond to a couple new sounds and actions when I am behind the camera...not this toddler. He had a vision in mind and went for it no matter what the crazy stranger did. Cheep, cheep! I loved working with this tiny fellow. He was almost 5 weeks old when he came to see me. The few sleepy shots I got were touchy at best. He would flinch out of position everytime I tried to adjust some part of his body. After a looooong while he gave in for about 10 minutes. Phew! He did not want to miss a moment of his first photo session. I don't blame him! Thanks to Kelly for letting me borrow her uber chic wool mat!

Balloons and a Bath

Wednesday we had a pretty fun evening. I met with Mr P, whom I last photographed at a couple weeks old. He is now 7.5 months old. It was HOT and sticky outside, seemingly perfect for a dip in a metal tub. Mr P was not so sure about that. The water was cold! His sassy sister enjoyed toting around the balloons and soaping her own hair. All the balloons popped from the sharp weeds before the session ended. Thanks for the fun evening.

I love these girls! We used to hang out when we lived in Utah several years ago. I photographed the twins shortly after birth and several times since then. They were part of the madness in the park! Meet a great bunch of folks! They are like family to me since I crashed about half of their family parties for a couple years when I ran wild and free. Since my Sis-in-law decided to marry my brother this family became me family....muhahaha. You will never get away. ever. Little Samantha Rainbow (a potential name the sisters wanted to name the youngest) decided not to smile after her aunt drove off in their van leaving her with a crazy lady. No amount of coaxing cracked this little soul...until the van came back. I resorted to gnawing bark off a nearby tree like a beaver and popping a rock or two into my mouth. She finally smiled for me. Hooray! Thanks for a memorable evening.

The littlest is six weeks old today. He is a sweetie! It was sweltering outside so decided to attempt some outdoor shots. I went during his long afternoon nap period so captured most of the images in about 15 minutes. I love his pouty lips. I love his bright eyes, so full of wisdom. I've waited for this session for over five months now. This little lady is the first for her Mommy and Daddy. She is a sweet one, a bit feisty but ever so willing to settle down with a snug cuddle. She came to see me at 9 days old. The day before Grandma and Dad dropped off quilts, pom-poms, a dolly cradle, and some other props. I absolutely love using props that are meaningful to the family. I got a vintage newborn scale off Etsy last month so used that as well. What a pleasure to capture her tiny-ness!

This lady/mom is absolutely amazing. She moved her little family down to Texas a couple months ago but came back to attend her oldest son's high school graduation. We coordinated multiple schedules and got everyone together for a couple moments for family photos. The mama told me the last time she had family photos done was when the youngest was a baby. I am surprised my belly is not in the photos since it is soooooo big. The baby is due in two weeks! Enjoy! It was a real pleasure.

I had the best time with these two little sweeties. Mr H is turning 3 this weekend. The morning of our photoshoot he managed to locate and open all his birthday gifts. That little tidbit brings understanding to the mischevious spark in his little eyes. Oh my! His sister is about the cutest thing ever. At 6 months of age she showed off all her milestones to perfection. Major kudos to my SIL for making the fun paper flowers.

High Key

I recently added some paper rolls to my photography collection of toys. High Key is a lot harder than it looks. Last night I tried out the white paper for the first time. I used a key light (large octabox mounted on an AB 800) only just to see what the photos would look like. They turned out ok but required too much editing because the lights did notblow out the white paper imperfections like wrinkles, tears, and shadows. This afternoon I pulled out my second light and clamped a large piece of foam board to flag the light and focused it to feather across the background. Then I taped 4 large pieces of foamboard together to create a large reflector as my fill light. With the main in the same location the photos turned out MUCH better. Only 3-4 minutes of editing per photo or less! Hooray! Thanks to a fellow photographer for letting me borrow her light meter. I nailed the exposure of my subject and then raised the light level of the backdrop light by a stop. For perfection I really "need" a third light since the backdrop light was obviously much stronger closer to the light. Correcting the light drop off took the most editing time....that...and cleaning off my child's booger nose and ketchup face!

Wednesday was a cra-zay day! These little tykes came to spend the day with us. We had three 16 month old toddlers and two 3 year olds running around. It was...well...FUN! I took a creative break and played with my lights while the 3 year olds were at preschool. These two adorables helped me out. My son was glad to have someone else in my soft box light. The twins are 10 days younger than my son. I foresee besties! Little princess is such a ham. I had to coax one smile from the boy. I used Lightroom for the first time to publish these. Yep! My brother sent me Lightroom AND Photoshop CS5. Geeze!

I am so excited to show you these darling children! I love how each child is so different but clearly belongs in the family. Thanks to the Mom for coming a couple hours before our scheduled time, no wind in the winter is a big deal! She also watched my screaming toddler during the shoot. Some dear friends reminded me of the amazing uses of a gray card. I used the card to calibrate for white balance and exposure. Worked like a charm cutting my post processing time in half. Yipee! Can you believe those blue eyes? Amazing!

Meet an amazing kid. I teach piano, this is one of my students. He cracks me up with an amazing sense of humor. A month or so ago he turned 12, a milestone in the Mormon religion, and received the Aaronic Priesthood. We captured this important time of his life. That smile melts! Watch out Mom!

Thirteen Reasons to Brave the Cold

I met with this family last weekend. I serve with lovely lady in the photo above in the Primary at our church. This motley crew is their family. It was beyond cold that day, later on we had freezing sleet and rain! I was sweating the details during this photoshoot. The lighting was terrible, very dim and gray. I put my camera to the limits bumping up the ISO to cra-zay levels. Excuse the graininess. We were only outside less than 40 minutes. For 13 folks that is amazing! Brrrr...COLD!

Brrrr! It was super cold during this session. Justin was out deer hunting while I stayed snug at home, until venturing out for an hour. I met this cute family out near their farm North of Sidney. They had a perfect row of colorful trees to break up the gray monotones. I loved that the youngest gal wanted photos with her prize hen. Can you tell we were all cold? The red noses are a pretty good indicator!

Close Call

Goodness! These two boys are so adorable. Big brother was so attentive to little brother. The little guy was not so keen about me, even after a pack of smarties he nearly teared up everytime I got near. No real smiles from him...maybe next time. I was excited about my new crocheted flat cap, a vintage car, and an old abandoned lot; vision completion. A couple hours after this photoshoot we received about 4 inches of heavy snow. I was sweating bullets knowing that little kids don't like the cold much. I think this was the shortest photoshoot at 25 minutes. It was cold, getting dark fast, and the baby was not so happy. Short does not equal lack of images! This turned out to be a favorite. My photo loader is acting up so check out their web album for more photos!

Take Me Out to the Ballgame

Phew! This little slugger put me through my paces. His parents are athletes in the greatest sense of the word, baseball? Yep, a family passion. I hauled about 3/4 of my studio over to this little man's home for his photoshoot. I was so excited after walking in to see a large south facing sliding door letting in some soft gorgeous light. I took over the kitchen table, ripped up the room temp to a balmy 85 and went to work. I had to work fast because this little guy was feisty and not very sleepy. Two or three hours later I was satisfied with my captures. So perfect! My favorite set was the white outfit which belonged to his grandfather when he was a wee little one. I loved the sense of family ties that portrait entails. Welcome to the world little slugger!

5 lbs of Itty Bitty

Wow! I am in love with this little lady! She was amazing, slept nearly the entire session. At birth she weighed about 5 lbs...at two weeks she was still oh so tiny. She allowed me to try out some fun poses. Little Miss A brought along her two proud older brothers. Anyone else feeling baby hungry after seeing these? LOL!

The Cool Old Couch

Grove of Yellow Trees

I've searched for over a month for some autumn trees. Monday I located a perfect spot, probably the only stand of trees in a 20 mile radius. A couple days later...a photo shoot. I commend the mom of this family on picking the perfect color scheme for this setting. We met at 9 am to rush through this shoot due to pending rain. The last couple frames were in the rain. I love the diffused light an overcast day offers, combined with some moisture in the air to deepen colors, phew, I was in heaven. These kiddos are very well-behaved. They let me boss them around. My son was in the baby backpack acting as the perfect attention getter. Well, he is pretty darn cute.

Autumn is the perfect time for family photos. The amazing mixture of reds, yellows, gold, orange, and green make a perfect palette for a photo...or two. I do miss the Utah mountain aspen trees and explosion of color, however, even Nebraska has little spots here and there full of color. I spotted this location a couple weeks ago scouting for some fall color. It seemed to fit this family's personality. Aren't they amazing? We had a fun time trying out new poses and ideas. The little gal in the top photo just celebrated her 6th birthday on Thursday. We had a super fun photo shoot out at a farm that had some fond memories for the birthday girl. She brought along her little sister, best friend, and her best friend's little sister. We had a magical time eliciting smiles, being goofy, and having a tea party. I have about a dozen favorites so check out the rest of their photoshoot if you are so inclined. The girls seemed to ooze sparkles so I added some cheesy effects just for the girlies! The baby loved the tea party idea. I hear Santa may bring her a set for Christmas! What fun!

These folks are our really amazing friends. They moved to Oregon on Tuesday for a new job. We will miss them sorely! The wind was acting up Monday afternoon during our session. We tried some photos inside the barn, which turned out great, but were a little hard to color correct. Greg (the husband) was sort of a stinker, he had a hard time smiling. Shoulda brought some smarties for him. He posed with his gear like a champ. The best part of our session was when I handed the baby a "rock", he took a bite out of it, yah, it was horse poop. He loved his sister's reaction. Fun times.

Handsome Brother...and Family

This handsome crowd of folks are related to me! I am so lucky! My brother and his family begged for photographs on our last night in Utah. We snatched the last moments of light in their backyard for an impromptu session. I love their back fence. Throw in the cutest nephews and niece, the adults, well, you know! Lia was not happy about the taking photos with her brothers. I love the last one where they are trying to make her smile or give comfort.

Plentiful Mosquitos

This family just welcomed a tiny baby girl into their family. They wanted some family photos before Grandma and Grandpa returned back home. My son's little birthday party was the same day, so we met at the park then ended the photo shoot with cupcakes! We walked to the memorial gardens near the park. Goodness, the mosquitos were out with a vengence. I think we all were bitten at least 20 times. There were too many fun photos to choose from, go check out their web album!!!

He he! I love how this session turned out. I was seriously a little worried! We were all on vacation with small children, so sleep deprived and cranky, pretty much sums up our mood. This gal is my uber-crafty cousin from Cali, her hubby, and two cute baby girls. Once again, smarties saved the day. The newborn was a bit hungry, she tried so hard to smile! We took literally a couple photos of the newborn later at my parent's home. Jess, I am SOOOO glad we got to meet up. Even more relieved the photos turned out. Hooray!

While in Utah I met up with my amazing friend and her family at Saltair for a photoshoot. We had an awesome time! The sunset was muted but pretty, lending a monotone set to the photos. My little girl loved playing in the water with my friend's two daughters. We all got sandy and wet! It was awesome! Thanks guys for a wonderful time!

Say hello to Easy-E...he is the best newborn I've met in a while. Luckily, this little man is my nephew! He was so pilable and ready to conform to my crazy ideas. We had the photo shoot outside on a cool, rainy day on their front porch. A space heater helped him feel comfy and the rain provided white noise. What do you think of my fluffy lion hat? Super cute, ehh? My sis-in-law made his cute quilt, had to incorporate that! Check out the rest of his photo shoot here!

High School Vibrance

This righteous gal, was so fun to work with. She was a bit nervous but by the end of our session she really pulled out the stops. I love her hippie vibe. She loves books and cute shoes! LOL. Sunflowers

Mmmmm, I love sunflowers. Last night we packed the kids in the car and went to look at the sunflowers. Course I had to get some photos of my little girl and the sunflowers. She was amazing! Her treat was a bag of marshmellows. She earned every fluffy treat. I was so giddy that some of the first photos had camera shake issues.

Enjoyed an evening riding horses last week. Ah-mazing! Riding horses always reminds me of my Dad. He used to be a cowboy way back in the early days. Now he rides the huge Army stallion, trying to tame the beast. He serves our country well. What an evening to reflect and spend time with wonderful friends.

Wow! These 3 kiddos are blessed with incredible cute faces and adorable curly hair. We had a great time eating crackers and cheerios to keep their interest engaged. I forgot my smarties...nearly lost control but the cheerios saved the session. Little Miss was standing on one of the chairs all by herself, when noone was looking. About gave me a heart attack. I recently inherited a new background...a piece of siding! I have plans to give the wood some fun painting treatments! I finally have my new camera, nick-named 007, a Canon 7d. Just had to try out my new camera with my new backdrop on two totally adorable kids. These siblings came over for a play day. We had a good time. Little man was not so happy but smarties cheered him up a bit. His pouty face is so kissable and cute. Little Miss is a firecracker cowgirl. Right after the photos were taken we had a severe storm roll through, complete with tornadoes. Little Miss matter-of-factly declared, we'll just die from this tornado, like duh!

Llama Assistants

Last week I photographed this stunning family. Geesh, it is impossible to take a BAD photo of stunning people. A dear family we know let me use their old run down homestead as the location. When I arrived their herd of Llamas were grazing the area. One llama is particularly friendly, Kuzko. He came right up and licked my window the steamed up my windshield. I honked the horn to see what would happen. Yep, he was startled. The wipers amused him as well. Finally I had enough fun so got out of the car. Kuzko helped me rifle through the trunk and find my equipement. I guess photography is boring to him so he left. The lovely Mom of this family took our family photos during Christmas as a swap. This school year they hosted a foreign exchange student from Australia! I loved her soft accent. The kiddos held together longer than anticipated so we had some fun times.

Vintage Theme

My kiddos were cooperative this morning and humored me with a photo shoot. I borrowed a vintage looking dress for Mia and found a fun knicker suit for the baby. With my fun wagon and a lots of tall grass we got some fun images. The baby is 10 months old today as well. It was really hot...at 9:00 am...and sticky humid. Sidney is still waiting for some amazing weather to clear out the heavy air.

I attended a calf rounding, branding, immunization, and neutering about a month ago already. Time flies! Mostly I manned the camera and watched kids. My hubby did give me a try in the wrassling ring. It was great fun!

I am really late in publishing these pictures. Words are insufficient for the glowy-loveliness of these photos. We met around 10 am across from the Sidney Park in a large open lot overgrown with tall grass. I was a little worried about snakes but we did not encounter any. The boys helped me tramp down the grass for an awesome location with perfect light. Combine perfect light with a gorgeous family and you have perfection. Little R was about the cutest thing ever.

I met with this smashing family last week. They let me boss them around. A strange phantom kid named Adam kept popping up, ok it really was my malfunctioning brain that kept mixing up the boys names. I finally got their names down but the phantom kid, Adam, made us all laugh. I found some amazing light right at the end of our session, the images are my favorites!
